TLDR A 63-year-old woman's male-like symptoms were caused by a rare testosterone-producing ovarian tumor, treated by removing her ovaries and fallopian tubes.
In 2018, a case study was reported involving a 63-year-old postmenopausal woman who exhibited symptoms of hyperandrogenism, including severe alopecia, voice deepening, and clitoromegaly, due to a testosterone-secreting ovarian tumor. These types of tumors are uncommon and can be challenging to detect both clinically and radiologically. The woman's condition was initially undiagnosed until a biopsy revealed the presence of the androgen-secreting ovarian neoplasm. The recommended treatment for such cases, once other causes of high androgens are excluded, is bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, which is the surgical removal of both ovaries and fallopian tubes.
