TLDR House fly larvae substances improve wound healing and skin regeneration, especially in immunosuppressed mice.
The study examined the effects of substances derived from common house fly larvae on wound healing in Swiss albino mice. Chitosan treatment led to rapid wound closure, especially in immunocompetent mice, while gut extracts improved collagen deposition and skin architecture. Immunocompetent mice treated with gut extract showed complete hair growth by the 14th day post-wounding. In immunosuppressed mice, chitosan significantly reduced wound diameter and epidermal thickness. Gut extracts also demonstrated antibacterial properties, reducing bacterial colonization. The study suggests that combining chitosan and gut extract treatments could enhance wound healing and skin regeneration, particularly in immunosuppressed conditions.
