TLDR PCOS may be influenced by factors in the blood, not just the ovaries.
The study demonstrated that culturing healthy ovarian tissues with sera from PCOS patients resulted in significantly higher androgen and estrogen production and reduced follicular atresia compared to culturing with their own sera. This suggested that factors present in the serum of PCOS patients could contribute to the ovarian dysfunction observed in PCOS. The findings indicated that the ovarian abnormalities in PCOS might be influenced by systemic factors rather than being solely of intraovarian origin.
