The Physiological Role of the Ovary and Fertility Outcomes in Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: A Comparative Study

TLDR Women with PCOS have shorter reproductive periods and higher infertility rates compared to healthy women.
This study compared fertility outcomes in 100 women, 50 with PCOS and 50 healthy controls. Women with PCOS had a significantly shorter reproductive period (16.3 years) compared to controls (21.7 years) and a higher rate of marital infertility (82% vs. 8%). Fertilization occurred in only 15 PCOS cases, resulting in 11 live births, whereas the control group had 72 fertilizations and 58 live births. Women with PCOS often required ovulation stimulation or assisted reproductive techniques, highlighting their significantly higher infertility rates and poorer fertility outcomes.
