TLDR Eating healthy, exercising, and changing behaviors are the best first steps to treat Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a significant endocrine disorder affecting women of reproductive age, characterized by symptoms such as anovulation, androgen excess, infertility, insulin resistance, depression, and amenorrhea. It is influenced by genetic predisposition and environmental factors like poor diet, inactivity, and obesity. Early detection and proper management of PCOS can mitigate associated reproductive, metabolic, and cardiovascular complications. Lifestyle interventions, including a healthy diet with caloric restriction, regular exercise, and behavior modification support, are recommended as the best initial treatment approach. Current treatments mainly address symptoms through hormones and insulin sensitizers, leading to long-term medication reliance. There is a need for future research to fill gaps in understanding and improve patient care for PCOS.
