TLDR Hair shaft abnormalities can help distinguish mycosis fungoides from other skin conditions.
This study highlights the significance of identifying hair shaft abnormalities, including numerous pili torti, 8-shaped hairs, and rapidly tapering hair shafts, as key dermoscopic features for differentiating patchy/plaque mycosis fungoides from inflammatory dermatoses like psoriasis and eczematous dermatitis on non-scalp skin areas. These findings suggest that such hair shaft characteristics should be considered in the diagnostic process to improve accuracy in distinguishing these conditions.
