Hair Removal Practices: A Literature Review

TLDR Hair removal methods vary in effectiveness and side effects, with electrolysis being the only permanent solution.
The literature review on hair removal practices highlighted the evolution of these methods from traditional to aesthetic purposes, categorizing them into depilation (removing the hair shaft) and epilation (removing the hair shaft, follicle, and bulb). Depilation includes shaving and chemical depilatories, while epilation encompasses techniques like plucking, waxing, and laser treatments. Eflornithine hydrochloride 13.9% cream (Vaniqa®) was noted for its FDA and Health Canada approval to slow facial hair growth, complementing other methods. Electrolysis was identified as the only permanent solution, with each method having distinct pros and cons regarding efficacy and side effects. The review pointed out a research gap, as most studies focused on individuals with darker hair and fairer skin, indicating a need for further research on light-colored hair.

community Depressed that topical dut+min is causing unwanted hair everywhere on my face. Is there anything can I do?

in Minoxidil  21 upvotes 2 years ago
The conversation is about a user experiencing excessive hair growth on their body due to using topical minoxidil and dutasteride. The suggested solutions are shaving off the excess hair or considering laser epilation. It is mentioned that dutasteride does not cause extra hair growth, while minoxidil can stimulate hair growth in unintended areas. The user is advised to lower the dosage, concentration, or frequency of use and only apply the treatment to the desired areas.
