TLDR Cyclosporine starts hair growth faster, while minoxidil makes it last longer.
The study "Evaluation of hair re-growth by cyclosporine and minoxidil using C3H mouse model" conducted 28 years ago, investigated the effects of cyclosporine and minoxidil on hair regrowth using a C3H/HeNCrj mouse model. The study found that 0.25% cyclosporine administration induced the anagen (growth) phase of the hair cycle earlier than the control vehicle and minoxidil. Minoxidil, on the other hand, prolonged the anagen phase compared to the control. The study concluded that the biochemical markers used in this mouse model, such as γ-glutamyltranspeptidase, tyrosinase, and alkaline phosphatase activities, are useful for studying the distinctive hair regrowth effects of active substances.
