TLDR Apremilast showed mixed results for hair regrowth in alopecia areata.
This study retrospectively evaluated the efficacy and safety of apremilast in five cases of extensive and treatment-resistant alopecia areata. Apremilast was administered at 30 mg twice daily for six months, with efficacy assessed using SALT scoring. Four out of five patients showed no sustained improvement, although two experienced slight, transient improvements after two months. One patient demonstrated a significant 83% reduction in SALT score, indicating a marked improvement. The study concluded that responses to apremilast varied, aligning with previous studies, and suggested that further research is needed to confirm its efficacy in alopecia areata patients.
