TLDR Taxane-based chemotherapy causes more hair loss and skin changes in Asian breast cancer patients.
This study evaluated hair loss and skin changes in 322 Asian breast cancer patients, comparing effects based on treatment regimens. Patients were assessed one day before and 6 months after surgery. Those receiving taxane-based chemotherapy in the adjuvant treatment group experienced significantly higher odds of increased hair loss, a higher melanin index, and more wrinkles. In contrast, hair loss was reversed in most patients in the neoadjuvant treatment group 6 months post-surgery. The study emphasizes the importance of informing patients about these potential side effects and providing supportive care to improve their quality of life.
