Stimulation of Hair Growth Using Conditioned Media Derived from Dental Pulp Stem Cells Expanded in Serum-Free Media
August 2017
TLDR Conditioned media from dental pulp stem cells effectively stimulates hair growth.
The study investigated the potential of conditioned media (CM) derived from stem cells to stimulate hair growth, focusing on dental pulp stem cells (SHED) and hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs) cultured in different media. SHED and HFSCs maintained mesenchymal stem cell characteristics across media types, with STK2 media showing better cell viability and maintenance of stem cell properties compared to DMEM-KO media. SHED-CM prepared in STK2 media significantly enhanced hair growth stimulation in vitro and in vivo, particularly in C3H/HeN mice, compared to HFSC-CM. The study concluded that STK2 media was superior for expanding SHED and HFSCs and that SHED-CM was more effective in promoting hair growth.
