TLDR Hair follicles are a key source of stem cells for skin repair and could help treat baldness.
The 2014 study by Porriño et al. highlighted the hair follicle as a complex microscopic organ with a variety of cell types, including stem cells. The hair follicle, particularly its bulge area, was identified as the most important niche of stem cells in the skin, with the added advantage of easy accessibility. These stem cells were found to be responsible for hair follicle regeneration each hair cycle, and could also form sebaceous glands and help in repopulation of the interfollicular epidermis after injury. The study also noted that recent research had differentiated follicle stem cells into different strains, such as nervous, hematopoietic, and vascular cells. The potential for human hair follicle regeneration was suggested to be a revolutionary development in the field of alopecia.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

Treatments for hair loss, including finasteride, dutasteride, minoxidil, ketoconazole, microneedling, and low level laser light therapy, which aim to reduce DHT production, increase cell absorption and blood flow, and stimulate epidermal stem cells. It also stresses the importance of patience when using these treatments.

Redensyl, which is a topical alternative to Minoxidil for hair loss. It may have advantages such as not making the hair greasy and lasting longer after discontinuing use than minoxidil. There are some positive reports from users, but also some negative ones, so it's unclear how effective this treatment will be in comparison to Minoxidil and other treatments like Finasteride or RU58841.

The user experienced positive hair growth results using microneedling with rosemary and mint oil, without Minoxidil, Finasteride, or RU58841. They switched from a dermaroller to a microneedling pen and targeted different scalp areas weekly.
