TLDR Oscillatory punches work better for soft scalps or deep punches in FUE surgery.
This study compared rotary and oscillatory punch methods in FUE surgery with 15 patients, finding that the oscillatory method had a slightly higher average number of hair follicles per graft and a significantly higher total yield rate of 90.5% compared to 88.3% for the rotary method. The oscillatory method was particularly effective in cases with soft scalps or when deeper punches were needed, showing better outcomes in challenging conditions. The study suggests that advancements in punch technology, particularly the oscillatory method, improve graft numbers and hair yield, emphasizing the need for personalized treatment plans and further research with larger samples.
