TLDR Robotic hair restoration is efficient, minimally invasive, reduces scarring, and leads to quick healing with high patient satisfaction.
The 2016 study "Megasessions for Robotic Hair Restoration" described the use of a robotic system in hair restoration megasessions. The robot selected and removed 600 to 800 grafts per hour, which were then manually transplanted to recipient sites. The robotic system was controlled by a physician and an assistant using a hand-held remote control and computer monitor. The robot's optical system could be programmed to choose the best follicular units (FUs), reducing variability of graft extraction. The transection rate was also reduced due to the robot's graft extraction system using two needles. The procedure was minimally invasive, did not result in linear scars in the donor area, and was associated with minimal fatigue and discomfort for both patient and physician. Rapid healing was observed and patients expressed high satisfaction with the results.
