TLDR Air pollution is a major cause of hair fall, scalp problems, and dandruff.
The study involving 100 individuals aged 18-25 from an urban area in Kancheepuram district revealed that 93.2% suffered from hair fall, primarily due to air pollutants and dust particles clogging the scalp (63.9% of participants). A significant correlation was found between hair fall and dandruff, with those having dandruff experiencing 1.98 times more hair fall. Additionally, individuals who sweat more were 8.90 times more likely to experience hair fall. The research concluded that air pollution is a significant factor in hair fall, scalp irritation, and dandruff, which may be confused with androgenic alopecia.
