TLDR Early diagnosis and treatment of endocrine disorders like HAIR-AN syndrome can improve outcomes in adolescents.
This case report discusses an 18-year-old female with HAIR-AN syndrome, a severe form of polycystic ovary syndrome, who also suffers from migraines. Symptoms such as obesity, acne, hirsutism, and acanthosis nigricans began during puberty but were diagnosed later. The study suggests a link between insulin resistance-induced diabetes and migraines. Treatment included antiandrogen therapy, weight management, migraine treatment, and medications like metformin and orlistat. The report stresses the importance of early diagnosis and intervention in endocrine disorders to improve outcomes and calls for further research to enhance diagnostic and treatment strategies, particularly in adolescents.
