Exploring the Link Between Gut Microbiota and Alopecia Areata: A Two-Sample Mendelian Randomization Analysis

    This study investigates the causal relationship between gut microbiota and alopecia areata (AA) using data from large genome-wide association studies (GWAS) involving 13,266 gut microbiota samples and 211,428 AA samples. The Mendelian randomization analysis identified that certain gut bacteria, such as Butyricimonas, Enterorhabdus, Eubacterium (xylanophilum group), and Phascolarctobacterium, have a protective effect against AA, while Ruminococcaceae UCG003 is a risk factor. The study concludes that there is a probable causal link between specific gut microbiota and AA, which could inform future pathogenesis understanding and intervention strategies. Reverse analysis found no significant causal link from AA to gut microbiota.
