TLDR Gentian Violet effectively treated a cat's stubborn fungal infection.
The study describes the successful use of Gentian Violet in treating a 5-year-old male cat with a refractory Malassezia pachydermatis infection, which was unresponsive to standard treatments like ketoconazole and chlorhexidine. The cat, suffering from symptoms such as intense itching, alopecia, and pustules, showed significant improvement after weekly baths with a solution of 20 ml of 1% Gentian Violet in 400 ml of glycerin-based baby shampoo. Complete symptom resolution was achieved by the third month without any adverse effects. This case indicates that Gentian Violet could be an effective and affordable treatment option for similar fungal infections in cats.
