TLDR CLEC4D gene variants may increase the risk of alopecia areata in Jordanians.
This study investigated the genetic basis of alopecia areata (AA) in the Jordanian population by analyzing DNA from 152 patients and 150 healthy subjects. The research focused on identifying genetic polymorphisms associated with AA susceptibility. While no significant associations were found in ten single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), the study identified significant associations between the CLEC4D rs4304840 variants and AA development, particularly in the codominant and recessive forms. These findings suggest that CLEC4D gene variants may play a role in the pathogenesis of AA among Jordanians, highlighting the need for further genetic and functional studies to better understand the disease.
