TLDR Switching to a twice-weekly betamethasone treatment led to full hair regrowth in alopecia areata without side effects.
An 8-year-old girl with alopecia areata that progressed to alopecia totalis experienced incomplete hair regrowth with a daily 1 mg betamethasone treatment over 8 months, alongside a 4 kg weight gain. Switching to an oral minipulse (OMP) regime of 5 mg betamethasone twice weekly resulted in complete hair regrowth within 3 months without side effects. The study recommended OMP for alopecia areata, particularly in persistent cases requiring long-term treatment.
