TLDR A hair tonic with 7.5% daun talok and 2% daun pare promotes hair growth as effectively as minoxidil.
The study formulated a hair tonic using ethanol extracts from talok leaves (Muntingia calabura) and pare leaves (Momordica charantia L.) in two combinations: 7.5% talok and 2% pare, and 3.75% talok and 1% pare. These formulations were tested on the dorsal skin of female Wistar rats and compared to a minoxidil-containing tonic. The hair growth activity was measured by hair length on days 10, 20, and 30, and hair weight on day 30. Results showed that both formulations had stable pH over 8 weeks, and the 7.5% talok and 2% pare combination promoted hair growth comparable to minoxidil, with a 64.71% increase. Statistical analysis indicated no significant difference in hair growth activity between this formulation and minoxidil.
