TLDR A 15% clove leaf extract shampoo promotes hair growth but is less effective than minoxidil.
This study formulated and evaluated clove leaf ethanol extract shampoos for hair growth in male white rats. The shampoos, containing 5%, 10%, and 15% clove leaf extract, were tested against a positive control (minoxidil 5%) and other controls. The shampoos were homogeneous, had a pH of 5.1-5.7, viscosity of 1700-3000 cps, and foam height of 9-11 cm, and did not irritate the skin. Data analysis showed significant differences among the formulations, with the 15% clove leaf extract shampoo being the most effective for hair growth. However, it was less effective than minoxidil 5%.
