TLDR A rare neck cyst in a 47-year-old man showed diverse skin cell types and was not linked to HPV.
This document described a rare case of a follicular hybrid cyst (HC) in a 47-year-old man, which combined isthmic-catagen, pilomatrical, and syringocystadenoma papilliferum (SCAP) components. The cyst, located in the neck, was surgically excised and analyzed. It exhibited trichilemmal keratinization and ghost cells, indicating a mix of differentiations. The study highlighted the strong expression of keratin 17 in the verrucous outgrowth, suggesting its origin from the outer root sheath or infrainfundibulum. The findings emphasized the diverse epithelial combinations possible in follicular HCs and supported the connection between SCAP and the infrainfundibulum. The absence of HPV infection indicators ruled out a diagnosis of HPV-related conditions.
