TLDR Fipronil effectively treats Lynxacarus radovskyi in outdoor cats.
The study aimed to report on 20 cases of Lynxacarus radovskyi infestation in outdoor cats in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The infestation was diagnosed through physical and microscopic examination of plucked hair, revealing adult mites and immature stages. Clinical signs included a salt-and-pepper appearance, dull and opaque hair coat, alopecia, and self-mutilation, with pruritus varying from mild to intense based on infestation severity. The study suggested transmission through fomites. Treatment with 0.5 mL of Fipronil® (Frontline TopSpot) per cat resulted in a 100% resolution of cases by day 15. The study was funded by Merial.
