TLDR Finasteride is more effective for treating hemospermia related to prostatitis.
The study evaluated the efficacy of finasteride in treating hemospermia, particularly related to prostatitis, involving 46 patients. Results showed that among 35 finasteride-treated patients, those with prostatitis had a 75% success rate, significantly higher than the 31.6% in non-prostatitis patients. In contrast, among 11 non-finasteride patients, success rates were similar between prostatitis (57.1%) and non-prostatitis (50.0%) groups. After excluding sonographically abnormal cases, the success rate in the finasteride-prostatitis group increased to 80%, compared to 25% in the non-prostatitis group. The study concluded that finasteride was more effective in treating prostatitis-related hemospermia, suggesting its potential as a useful treatment, though further research was recommended.
