TLDR Finasteride effectively treats hematospermia in 3 months without side effects.
This prospective placebo-controlled study evaluated the efficacy of finasteride in treating refractory idiopathic hematospermia in 22 patients. The study found that 81% of patients treated with finasteride experienced cessation of hematospermia after 3 months, compared to 27% in the placebo group (P = 0.03). Remission occurred in 45% of finasteride-treated patients within 1 month, and although hematospermia recurred in some patients after stopping treatment, a significant decrease in bleeding frequency and amount was observed. The study concludes that a 3-month finasteride treatment significantly cures hematospermia without undesirable side effects.
