TLDR Finasteride doesn't affect sleep spindles in men.
The study aimed to investigate whether the use of finasteride, a 5α-reductase inhibitor commonly used to treat hair loss, is associated with alterations in sleep spindles in men referred for polysomnography. The study found that finasteride is not associated with alterations in sleep spindle range activity or spindle morphology parameters. The results showed that there were no significant differences in sleep spindle density, amplitude, duration, or integrated spindle activity between patients taking finasteride and matched control patients. The study suggests that the use of finasteride is unlikely to significantly affect sleep staging through alterations in sleep spindles, and thus should not have meaningful effects on polysomnography scoring or interpretation.
