TLDR Finasteride does not negatively affect male reproductive function.
The study investigated the impact of finasteride, a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor used to treat androgenic alopecia, on the reproductive function of married men. The research compared 27 men who had been taking finasteride for more than 6 months with 27 men who had not taken any medication, all of whom visited an andrology center for fertility evaluation. The mean age of the participants was 37 years, and the mean duration of finasteride treatment was 33.6 months. The study found no significant difference in semen parameters (volume, sperm concentration, motility, and strict morphology) or serum reproductive hormone levels between the two groups. Only one patient reported weak ejaculation and reduced semen volume while on finasteride. The conclusion drawn from this study is that low-dose finasteride does not negatively affect male reproductive function, but the authors suggest that further large-scale research is needed to confirm these findings.
