TLDR Low vitamin D levels, not ferritin levels, were found in patients with hair loss condition telogen effluvium.
In 2017, a study investigated the role of serum ferritin and vitamin D levels in 80 female patients with chronic telogen effluvium (TE), a hair loss condition, compared to 80 control patients without hair loss. The study found that the median serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D level in the TE group was significantly lower than in the control group (6.65 ng/mL vs 18.70 ng/mL). However, there was no significant difference in serum ferritin levels between the two groups (16.10 ng/mL in the TE group vs 18.17 ng/mL in the control group). The study concluded that while serum ferritin levels in TE patients were similar to those in the control group, serum vitamin D levels were lower in the TE group.
