TLDR Beard hair can be successfully transplanted to the moustache area for facial hair restoration with high patient satisfaction.
This article presents a case study of a 32-year-old male who underwent moustache reconstruction using long hair follicular unit extraction (FUE) from beard hair to address a scar from a previous cleft lip repair. The procedure utilized the Zeus U-Graft system to harvest 12 follicular units from the lower neck beard, allowing for immediate visualization of transplant outcomes without the need for shaving the donor or recipient areas. This approach enhanced patient comfort and aesthetic results, with adjunctive measures like platelet-rich plasma and liposomal adenosine triphosphate supporting graft retention. The patient reported high satisfaction with no complications, demonstrating the feasibility and efficacy of this novel technique for facial hair restoration.
