TLDR High-intensity interval training (HIIT) is better than moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT) for improving health in overweight women with PCOS.
This study investigated the effects of exercise intensity on the health of overweight women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). It compared high-intensity interval training (HIIT) with moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT) in a randomized clinical trial involving 24 women. Results showed that HIIT led to greater improvements in aerobic capacity, insulin sensitivity, hormonal profiles, and anxiety scores compared to MICT. HIIT also showed efficacy in improving menstrual cyclicity, depression, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The findings suggested that HIIT might be superior to MICT for enhancing various health outcomes in women with PCOS, making it a recommended strategy for promoting health and reducing cardio-metabolic risk in this population.
