Ziziphus lotus (L.) Lam., a plant from the Mediterranean region, is traditionally used to treat various diseases such as diabetes, digestive and urinary tract issues, infectious diseases, cardiovascular and neurological disorders, and skin problems. This review highlights its pharmacological properties, including antidiabetic, anticancer, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and more, supported by in vitro and in vivo studies. The plant contains over 181 bioactive compounds like terpenoids and flavonoids. Toxicity studies indicate that Z. lotus is safe, but further research and clinical trials are necessary to confirm its medicinal efficacy and explore the link between its traditional uses and pharmacological benefits.
