Noor S Jaafar, Iman Sabah Jaafar
TLDR Jarjeer has potential health benefits and may aid hair growth, but effects on humans are uncertain.
Eruca sativa Linn., known as jarjeer, was studied for its pharmacognostical and pharmacological properties, revealing various health benefits and pharmaceutical applications. It contained phytochemicals like flavonoids and glucosinolates, contributing to its antibacterial, antidiabetic, antihypertensive, antiplatelet, and antioxidant activities. The plant was noted for stimulating hair growth, with research on topical preparations such as creams and waxes for enhancing hair growth and treating skin infections. Its oil showed protective effects against testicular and liver damage in animal models, and formulations were developed for hair care products. However, these findings were primarily based on animal studies and might not directly apply to humans.
