TLDR An epidermal cyst in the temporal bone can occur as a rare delayed complication after ear surgery.
The study detailed a rare case of an epidermal cyst in the temporal bone of a 24-year-old male, which was considered a delayed complication of myringoplasty, a surgical procedure for eardrum repair. This was the first reported case of such a complication following overlay myringoplasty. The patient presented with right otorrhea and mild conductive hearing loss 9 years post-surgery. Diagnosis was confirmed through CT and MRI, and surgical removal of the cyst was performed successfully. The study suggested that the cyst likely developed due to the implantation of epithelial elements during surgery, highlighting the importance of precise surgical techniques and follow-up in preventing such complications.
