TLDR CBD may help reduce stress and pain in women with PCOS.
The document reviewed the condition of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), which affects 5-10% of women of reproductive age and is a major cause of female infertility. The etiology of PCOS is multifactorial, including genetic mutations, hormonal imbalances, lifestyle, and environmental factors. Symptoms range from infertility and menstrual irregularities to hirsutism and male pattern baldness. Current treatments include insulin-sensitizing drugs like metformin, which may lower the risk of associated conditions such as hyperinsulinism and type-2 diabetes, as well as oral contraceptives and anti-androgen medications. Clomiphene Citrate is also used for ovulation induction. The review specifically explored the potential benefits of Cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive compound, for reducing stress and pain associated with PCOS.
