Emulsion Formulation Assays Based on Natural Substances Stimulating Hair Growth and Evaluation of Its Biological Activity

    TLDR A stable emulsion made with plant extracts and oils was effective in stimulating hair growth.
    The study aimed to develop stable emulsions with medicinal plant extracts for hair care and to evaluate their hair growth stimulating activity. The emulsions were created using extracts from Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. flowers and Cannabis sativa L. seeds oil, combined with Ricinus communis L. oil, Olea europaea oil, and beeswax. These were tested in vivo on Cavia porcellus L. for 28 days. The results showed that the most effective formulation was a water-in-oil emulsion with a 4/6 ratio, a Hydrophilic/Lipophilic Balance (HLB) of 7, an average globule size of 2.57 ± 1.91μm, and containing 10mg/g of both Cannabis sativa L. seed oil and Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. flower extract. This formulation was found to be stable and effective in stimulating hair growth. The study concluded that the stability and effectiveness of the emulsion are dependent on the HLB, the uniformity of globule size distribution, and the hydrophilic/lipophilic ratio.
