The study investigated the relationship between epidermal growth factor (EGF) expression and hair follicle development in Jining Gray goats. It was found that the primary follicles were fully developed before birth, while secondary follicles developed postnatally. The diameter of secondary follicles increased significantly, peaking at 2 months old, which coincided with the highest expression of EGF. After 2 months, EGF expression decreased significantly. The study concluded that there was a significant positive correlation between EGF expression and the development of secondary follicles before 2 months of age.
