TLDR Topical eflornithine helps maintain hair reduction after IPL therapy in women with facial hirsutism.
The study investigated the effectiveness of topical eflornithine in maintaining hair reduction after intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy in 22 women with facial hirsutism. In a randomized, split-face, single-blinded controlled trial, eflornithine was applied twice daily for 6 months to half of the face following 5-6 IPL treatments. Results showed that eflornithine reduced hair regrowth by 14% at 1 month, 9% at 3 months, and 17% at 6 months compared to no treatment. Patient satisfaction was high, and the treatment was generally well tolerated, although two patients experienced worsening acne. The study concluded that topical eflornithine could be a viable option for maintaining IPL-induced hair reduction.
