TLDR DCP in isopropanol is better tolerated for treating alopecia areata.
The study compared diphenylcyclopropenone (DCP) solutions in propylene glycol and isopropanol for treating alopecia areata in 100 patients, split into two groups of 50. Both formulations had similar efficacy, with complete hair regrowth in 68% of patients using DCP in propylene glycol and 64% in isopropanol. However, the isopropanol formulation was better tolerated, with fewer side effects like itching and redness, suggesting it could be a preferable option due to its better tolerance. Sensitization was done with 3% DCP in propylene glycol for both groups.
