TLDR Botulinum toxin may help treat male pattern baldness.
The study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of botulinum toxin (BT) for treating male androgenetic alopecia (AGA) through a randomized, triple-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial. The postulated effects of BT include relaxation of scalp muscles, increased blood supply, reduction in tissue dihydrotestosterone levels, and modulation of fibroblast activity. Despite some endorsements in previous literature, no placebo-controlled trial had objectively validated BT for AGA treatment before this study. The results of this trial provide new insights into the potential therapeutic benefits of BT for male AGA.
