Efficacy and Safety of Persimmon Leaf Formulated With Green Tea and Sophora Fruit Extracts on Hair Growth: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial
August 2023
in “Skin Research and Technology”
TLDR BLH308, with persimmon leaf, green tea, and sophora fruit extracts, safely increased hair density and thickness.
The clinical trial involved 88 healthy Korean adults and tested the efficacy and safety of BLH308, a product containing persimmon leaf extract (PLE), green tea, and sophora fruit extracts, on hair growth and health. After 24 weeks of twice-daily consumption, participants who took BLH308 showed significantly increased hair density and thickness compared to the control group. Hair density began to increase from week 8. Although not statistically significant, hair gloss also improved in the test group. No serious adverse reactions were reported, and no participants dropped out due to adverse events. The study suggests that the antioxidative and anti-inflammatory properties of PLE, green tea, and sophora fruit extracts could improve hair health, but further studies are needed to confirm this.
