TLDR The 12-point scale is better for evaluating small changes in hair condition after using hair care products.
The study aimed to establish an objective classification system for assessing hair surface condition using a 12-point scale, addressing the limitations of the subjective SEM technique. Hair samples from 500 female subjects and 180 Asian hair bunches were damaged using chemical, heat, and UV stress. The new 12-point scale provided improved discrimination of damaged cuticle layers compared to a 5-point scale. Hair surface-related parameters, such as luster and combing load, showed significant improvement after using hair care products, validating the efficacy of the new grading system. The 12-point scale was demonstrated to be a more precise and appropriate method for evaluating subtle changes in the hair shaft.

      community Verteporfin and Microneedling

      in Treatments 5 months ago
Clinical studies by Dr. Barghouthi and Dr. Bloxham indicate that Verteporfin, when used with FUE and FUT hair transplantation methods, shows promise in hair follicle regeneration and minimal scarring due to its ability to inhibit Yes-associated protein (YAP). Microneedling at depths of 3-3.5mm, combined with Verteporfin, could potentially reactivate dormant follicles, although the optimal dosage and application method are still under investigation. Concerns remain about the DHT sensitivity of regenerated follicles, highlighting the need for further research to optimize trauma levels and Verteporfin concentrations to achieve effective and scar-free hair regeneration.
