TLDR MSG-based hair hardener improves hair thickness, strength, and wave retention after perms.
This study evaluated the effects of an MSG-based hair hardener on hair treated with perms, focusing on hair elasticity and retention. The hair hardener was found to be stable and safe, with no physical or color changes at room temperature and no allergic reactions in 20 participants. Hair treated with the hardener showed increased thickness, higher levels of total amino acids, L-glutamic acid, and cysteine, and changes in surface color (higher L* and a* values, lower b* value). SEM analysis revealed tidier hair cuticles, and tensile strength was greater in the experimental group. Additionally, wave efficiency after shampooing was higher in the experimental group compared to the control group.
