TLDR Finasteride increases hair growth, prolongs hair cycle, and lowers dihydrotestosterone levels.
The study investigated the effects of finasteride on hair growth, hair cycle stage, and serum testosterone and dihydrotestosterone in adult male and female stumptail macaques. Results showed that finasteride treatment increased hair growth and prolonged the anagen phase of the hair cycle, while decreasing serum dihydrotestosterone levels. These findings suggest that finasteride may be an effective treatment for androgenetic alopecia in humans. The study also validated the stumptail macaque as a model for human androgenetic alopecia.
