TLDR Cyproterone slightly inhibited hair growth in castrated mice, while tamoxifen significantly inhibited hair growth in castrated mice but not in normal mice.
In a study conducted 42 years ago, the effects of cyproterone and tamoxifen citrate on hair growth were examined in normal and castrated C57 mice. Cyproterone (1 mg/day) did not affect the hair growth in normal male mice and slightly inhibited the diffuse growth induced by castration. Tamoxifen citrate (1 mg/day), on the other hand, did not affect the hair growth in normal female mice but significantly inhibited the diffuse hair growth induced by castration. The differences in the effects of castration and these drugs were attributed to a slight agonistic androgenic effect of cyproterone and a marked agonistic estrogenic effect of tamoxifen citrate on the hair follicles in mice.
