TLDR 1 mg/day oral finasteride significantly improves hair growth in men with male pattern baldness.
A 6-month, prospective, open, multicenter cohort study in 265 men with male pattern hair loss treated with 1 mg/day oral finasteride (Propecia) was conducted by 52 Swiss dermatologists. Using a stereotactic device for Polaroid photographs of the vertex and frontal areas, significant hair growth improvements were observed in 54% of patients in the vertex region and 48.7% in the frontal area. Additionally, no progression of hair loss was noted in 38% (vertex) and 47% (frontal region) of patients. Both clinical investigators and a blinded expert panel confirmed these results, which were also supported by patient self-assessments. Propecia was well-tolerated with no significant safety concerns, and the photographic method was well accepted by physicians. The study's findings were consistent with previous multicenter, placebo-controlled studies on oral finasteride.

In this conversation, 4990 discussed various treatments for hair loss, including oral minoxidil, PRP, transplan, Jak inhibitors, Dutasteride, Finasteride, Olumiant, Ketoconazole, RU58841, microneedling, baricitinib, and CCCA. They recommended scalp biopsies in unclear cases of DUPA, twice weekly to twice daily shampooing for topical minoxidil users, and two sessions spaced one month apart with follow up at month three to determine the effectiveness of PRP treatment.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

Addressing hair loss by focusing on posture, blood flow, and craniofacial development. Methods include improving posture, cardiovascular activity, scalp massages, healthy diet, meditation, using minoxidil, and addressing craniofacial issues.
