Effect of Virgin Coconut Oil and Palm Kernel Oil on Hair Growth in Rabbits

The study conducted by Ahmad Hafizullah Ritonga and colleagues from Universitas Sari Mutiara Indonesia investigated the impact of Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) and Palm Kernel Oil (PKO) on hair growth in rabbits. The oils were extracted from coconut fruit and palm kernel, and their characteristics, including fatty acids, squalene, and vitamin E content, were tested using Gas Chromatography and Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography methods. The oils were applied to the rabbits twice daily, and hair growth distribution and daily hair growth rate were measured every 5 days for 30 days. The study found that PKO showed a higher rate of hair growth compared to VCO.
