TLDR Topical minoxidil does not change the activity of hair follicle enzymes that metabolize it.
The study, conducted by A Goren et al., involved 120 subjects and examined the effect of topical minoxidil treatment on the activity of sulfotransferase enzymes in hair follicles. Minoxidil is metabolized to its active form, minoxidil sulfate, by these enzymes, and the level of sulfotransferase expression varies between individuals, influencing their response to minoxidil treatment. The study found that the expression of the sulfotransferase enzymatic system remained stable throughout the course of minoxidil treatment. This was the first study to demonstrate the stability of a Phase II metabolizing enzyme, such as sulfotransferase, during minoxidil treatment.

community Is microneedling + minoxidil better than oral minoxidil

in Chat  29 upvotes 5 months ago
Oral minoxidil is considered more effective for hair regrowth than topical minoxidil, but it carries higher risks. Combining microneedling with topical minoxidil can enhance absorption, but oral minoxidil with microneedling shows significant results.

      in Finasteride/Dutasteride  6 upvotes 11 months ago
The user has been on finasteride for 4.5 years and minoxidil for 10 years, maintaining hair but not regrowing much on the crown and temples. They are considering using a dermastamp more frequently and possibly trying RU58841, but are hesitant about dutasteride due to concerns about side effects and DHT suppression.

Microneedling for hair restoration involves daily use of a 0.3 mm device and weekly use of a 0.5 mm device. Combining microneedling with Minoxidil can enhance hair growth.

community Why don't Minoxidil regenerated hairs become terminal on the head?

Minoxidil helps hair growth by increasing blood flow and prolonging the growth phase, but it doesn't address the root cause of hair loss, such as DHT sensitivity. Finasteride can help maintain some gains by blocking DHT, but stopping Minoxidil often leads to hair loss because the new hairs are dependent on it.
