TLDR Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) may improve hair transplant success by increasing blood vessel and hair follicle growth.
In the 2014 experimental study on rats, the effects of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) on hair transplantation were investigated. The study involved 40 rats, with 20 rats evaluated after 1 month and another 20 after 2 months post-transplantation. The results showed that while the density of follicle shafts was similar between the control and PRP groups after 1 month, the PRP group had a higher degree of capillary formation. After 2 months, both the capillary formation and the number of follicle shafts were significantly higher in the PRP group compared to the control group. The study concluded that PRP may enhance the success of hair transplants due to its content of growth factors such as IGF, VEGF, EGF, and PDGF, which are important for angiogenesis, endothelial differentiation, and the stimulation of mesenchymal cells and stem cells, all of which can affect hair growth.
