The Effect of Novel Low Energy Pulsed Light Combined with Galvanic Energy for Home-Use Hair Removal of Dark Skin

TLDR The combined technology safely and effectively removes hair at home on dark skin.
The study evaluated a home-use hair removal device combining low energy pulsed light (IPL) and galvanic energy on dark skin (Fitzpatrick type VI) with 15 female subjects aged 21-60. Over 7 months and 6 treatments, there was a significant hair count reduction (57.3% at 1 month, 44.5% at 3 months post-treatment). All subjects were satisfied and willing to purchase the device, with no adverse events reported except slight perifollicular edema in 33.3% of subjects. The study concluded that the device was safe and effective for dark skin, though more frequent sessions might be needed compared to lighter skin types. The galvanic energy enhanced IPL absorption, reducing the need for high optical energy and preventing skin damage.
